South London Man Saves Family From House Fire
A London family is staying in a hotel after their house caught fire early this morning.
Firefighters were called to the 800 block of Jalna Boulevard in the city’s south end shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday to a fire at a townhouse.
Mike Chamz owns the townhouse and tells AM980 he awoke to the sound of the smoke detector alarm.
“When I seen the smoke I ran back upstairs,” Chamz explains.“I got the kids out of the house. Then, smoke was getting worse and worse. That’s when I called the fire department.
”An exact damage estimate is not yet known but officials expect it to be upwards of $100,000.
“The neighbouring home actually suffered no damage, no smoke, no nothing,” Fire Inspector, James Hein, tells AM980.“The separations did what they were supposed to.”
Inspectors remain on the scene and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
