The search is intensifying for a missing Wallaceburg man who left LHSC early Monday morning without being discharged.

68-year-old Frederick Sutherland left the hospital just before 1 a.m. Monday and has not been seen since.

“We’ve got our command post set up behind Parkwood Hospital,” Constable Ken Steeves explained Thursday afternoon.

“We have been searching for Frederick Sutherland since yesterday; all day yesterday, into the night until around 10 or 11 o’clock at night. Then we commenced the search again this morning. We currently have the services of London Fire who is searching the waterways, we have OPP who is using their helicopter for the aerial perspective, and we have London Search and Rescue from the City as well as several London Police resources to assist with the search.”

When asked why the search didn’t ramp up until Wednesday when Sutherland went missing early Monday, Constable Steeves said that police did search on the Monday but as more information came in it became apparent the search should expand.

“As more information was acquired, as we assessed the situation, with all the information we had, we felt it was important to search that area. There’s no indication that he is there but with all the circumstances in totality we thought it was important to search the area.”

Sutherland is described as a white man, 5’10″, with a slim build and grey hair and a moustache. He was last seen wearing light blue jeans, a blue plaid shirt, and tan coloured shoes. Police add that he had a “significant amount” of medical dressing on his neck and his head was tilted to the right as he walked.

Police and Sutherland’s family are concerned for his welfare and ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact London Police at 519-661-5670.

Officials with London Health Sciences Centre told AM980 they would speak to the issue on Thursday but have yet to comment.
