Emergency personnel were called to 241 Simcoe St. at around 10:30 p.m. as a result of occupants being alerted by the smell of smoke.

A fire occurred in an 11th floor apartment. The lone occupant, a 50-year-old male, sustained burns to a large portion of his body and was transported to hospital by ambulance where he remains in serious condition.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Ontario Fire Marshall and the London Fire Inspector are currently on scene.

The London Fire Service and the London Police Service are continuing with the investigation.
