House Fire Extinguished in Gainsborough-Hyde Park Area

A rowhouse in London’s northwest end suffered extensive damage thanks to smoking materials that were improperly disposed of.

London fire officials say the blaze broke out at 1630 Bayswater Crescent, Unit 11 shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday. Crews arrived on scene just minutes later to find the fire fully involved.

The first engine that arrived on scene was actually from Fire Station 14, which was specifically built to better service the northwest part of London.

Officials say once they were on scene, they knocked the flames down quickly, but not before roughly $350,000 in damage was done.

Fire Prevention Inspector Brent Smith says smoke damage was done to the adjoining home while part of the siding on the house next door curled from the heat of the flames.

No one was home at the time, although neighbours say a single man does rent the home near Gainsborough and Hyde Park Roads.

And while no residents were hurt during the blaze, officials say a firefighter was injured when his foot went through the damaged floor of the unit. He was taken to hospital, but released later in the day.
