Two fires Friday in London left one man with second-degree burns and left a tenant displaced.

The first blaze happened about 3:30 p.m. on Wonderland Road North after a pot of oil on a stove top caught fire.  A man in the residence tried to remove the pot to a balcony. As he moved it, the airflow caused it to flare up, resulting in burns to the man’s face. The oil in the pot also spilled onto the man’s right arm and hands, causing second-degree burns.

Fire officials say never to remove a pot on fire, but to put a lid over it and slide it to a cool element.

The second fire was at the Campus Hi-Fi restaurant on Richmond Street and forced a second-floor tenant from her apartment.Officials were called to the establishment about 11 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the vents and rooftop upon arrival. They say the fire was on the main floor, but sent smoke throughout the building.

The occupant of the apartment was relocated due to the smoke odour in her residence. The fire caused about $75,000 in damage and remains under investigation.
