Update: London police spokesman Const. Dennis Rivest said Monday morning (April 23) that investigators are looking at whether the fires on Sunday evening and Friday morning at the Tepperman’s store are connected. He added that police are also investigating a fire in a loading dock at a nearby No Frills grocery store on Base Line Road just after 11 p.m. Sunday to determine if that blaze is linked to the fires at the Tepperman’s store.

London firefighters once again found themselves called out to battle a blaze on the site of the former Tepperman’s store.

At approximately 8:37 p.m. on Sunday (April 22), London emergency services responded to a report of smoke coming from the partially demolished structure, located near the corner of Wharncliffe and Commissioners roads.

The fire was quickly contained but fire department officials on scene were reluctant to release any information on the nature of the fire or its cause.

This is the second time in less than three days the London Fire Department has been called out to the location.

Just before 4 a.m. on Friday (April 20), firefighters were called out to the same location, battling what witnesses on scene described as two small fires within the structure. London Police Services Const. Dennis Rivest said in an interview last week that police are treating that fire as suspicious since the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
