London Fire Department Public Education officer Julie Ann Wever shows Eileen Walter, Alice McDonald and Alfred Priest the correct way to put out a stove top grease fire.

Part of a firefighters job isn’t just battling a blaze, it is also doing what they can to make sure it don’t happen in the first place. To that end, representatives from the London Fire Department welcomed a group of approximately 65 seniors to the Carling Heights Optimists Community Centre for a Fire Safety for Seniors presentation.

Held as part of the Middlesex London Health Unit’s (MLHU) Stepping out Safely — Healthy Aging initiative, the presentation discussed fire safety practices in the kitchen and round the home as well as what to do — and not to do— if there is a fire.

The Stepping out Safely — Healthy Aging initiative continues through until October with a variety of happenings planned around London and Middlesex County.
