The City of London and the London Professional Firefighters Association have agreed to return to negotiations to discuss a possible contract agreement.

An arbitrator has asked the two sides to go back to the mediation table as arbitration hearings are set to continue into next fall.

President of the LPFFA Jason Timlick says he is happy with the new step that is being taken.

“I am very pleased that they agreed to it, we also agreed to it. I see no harm in the parties getting back together to have constructive, productive conversations. Again, this is not inhibiting or delaying the process at all, it’s just the parties getting together to endeavour to try and work out the disagreements and to try and get to a freely negotiated collective agreement.”

There are no details on who the mediator will be, but the two parties must participate in a mediation session before the end of June.

The association is asking for a raise in salaries similar to other municipalities.

London’s firefighters have been without a contract since 2010.
