A 60-year-old woman who died in a London apartment building fire has been identified as Theresa Bourdeau.

She was found unresponsive in her apartment unit at 630 Huron St., after emergency services arrived about 3:40 a.m. Thursday to battle the fire.

Firefighters performed CPR until paramedics arrived and treated and transported her to hospital, but she did not survive.

Bourdeau had lived in the apartment for six years, said neighbours, who were shaken up by her death.

The sense of family in the building is now lost, said neighbour Erin Brasil, 40.

“I used to help her bring her bike in and we would have a lovely conversation. I would hold the doors, I would help her with the groceries,” said Brasil, teary-eyed. “She was a very nice lady.”

Brasil said she didn’t hear a fire alarm, but fled the building with her boyfriend and dog.

An autopsy took place Thursday at the London Health Sciences Centre.

Police said the cause of Bourdeau’s death remains under investigation, but is not considered suspicious. The cause and origin of the fire also is still under investigation.
