Family of Five Suspects Arson Following House Fire on Decker Drive

A family of five is worried they’re being targeted by vandals after their home burned down in southwest London.

Firefighters were called to the home at 6313 Decker Drive, east of Colonel Talbot Road, just before 3am Sunday morning.

A neighbour spotted flames coming from the home and called 911. Richard Radu, Cassandra Brookes, and their three children were visiting family in Sarnia, and weren’t home at the time.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and put out the fire, but the home and most of their belongings were destroyed. Officials have yet to determine an exact damage estimate, but it’s believed to be approx. $150,000.

Detective Constable Brent Lipskey of the London Police tells AM980 no one was harmed.

“The cause has not been determined… No injuries.”

London Police say they’re now treating the fire as suspicious. Radu believes it was an arson.

“This is the third incident now that has happened at our house. January 24th of this year we had my wife’s car and my company pickup keyed and two tires flattened on both vehicles. This past Monday we had a rock thrown threw my front window (of the house), both times we were both home with the kids,” he said.

Radu is glad his family is safe and no one was injured.

“Last night, just thank God we weren’t here at the time this happened.”

The family says they don’t have a place to go right now and that they will return to Sarnia with their kids until they figure out what to do.

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to take over the investigation.
