The London Fire Department says a local man is extremely lucky after a kitchen fire early this morning.

Officials tell AM980 a man was over at a neighbour’s house on Heath Place early this morning. When he returned home around 4 a.m. fire crews say he decided to make some macaroni and cheese. Unfortunately, the homeowner then fell asleep with the pot on the stove.

Another neighbour returning home around the same time saw smoke coming from the house and called 911. Officials say when they arrived on scene, London Police broke down the home’s door finding the residence filled with smoke.

Crews found the man, who was still fast asleep, and brought him outside. Fire officials say once they were in the kitchen, they found the pot on the stove. They say a hole the exact size of the electric burner had been burned into the bottom.

Fire officials say no one was injured and damage is estimated at $5,000.
