Firefighters examine one of two vehicles damaged in an accident at the corner of Bradley Avenue and Old Victoria Road on Monday afternoon.
London Emergency Services were called out to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Bradley Avenue on Monday afternoon (April 30).
At approximately 3:15 p.m., police, fire and ambulance services responded to a report of a collision between a car and a transport truck at the corner of Bradley and Old Victoria Road.
A police spokesman said the car was driving northbound on Old Victoria Road when it struck the truck as it travelled westbound on Bradley Avenue.
The truck’s fuel tank was ruptured in the collision and emergency crews had to deal with a small fire, said Sgt. Norm Ossau.
A quantity of diesel fuel was spilled onto the roadway resulting in the London Fire Department HazMat team also being dispatched to the scene.
Ossau said each vehicle was driven by an adult male and no one was injured in the crash, although both vehicles were heavily damaged.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Darryl Gelderland, the City of London’s supervisor of operations who was at the scene of the crash for cleanup efforts, said as of 5 p.m. the fuel that had spilled onto the roadway was contained.
While the spill extended roughly 27 metres from the site of the crash, he said, none of the fuel had left the road.
The remaining fuel in the truck’s tank was pumped out before the vehicle was towed from the scene, Gelderland added.
