The all clear has been given at the Canada Post mail processing facility on Highbury Ave. after workers first came across a suspicious package with white powder inside.

The building was evacuated around 6 a.m. Wednesday as a “precaution,” according to Canada Post spokesperson Eugene Knapik.

Employees were allowed back into the building after 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

“The tests that we’ve been able to conduct so far on the sample that we brought out have been totally inconclusive, so we haven’t been able to rule anything out yet. That’s why we brought the Police department in, and their bomb squad equipment.” said Wayne Brown, District Fire Chief with the London Fire Department.

The substance was taken to a Toronto lab for further analysis.

Those who work in the office portion of the Canada Post building, approximately 200 yards away from the sorting facility, were also allowed back inside.

Approximately 12 employees who may have come in contact with the package have been isolated, but only as a precaution.

They have been released, none of them have been showing any signs of illness.

District Chief Wayne Brown said you can’t be too careful in this day and age.

“Prior to 9-11, someone would have found the powder and just brushed it away, we live in a different era and and we have to make different assumptions about substances,” he said.
