A London homeowner helped by a good samaritan yesterday when their backyard shed caught fire.

London Fire says a passing cyclist heard cries for help coming from a home on Pegler Street – in the Hamilton Road and Rectory area just before 2pm.

The man went to see what was wrong and found a backyard shed on fire.

He called the fire department then helped the homeowner and her husband to get out and rescued their dogs. He then went to try and put the fire out with a garden hose, but was forced to flee because of the heat.

The shed was completely destroyed and the side of the house and one just north of it also suffered some damage.

No one was injured and the damage estimate is $50,000.
