London police redirect traffic at the corner of Highbury Avenue and Dingman Drive as a result of a fire in a nearby vacant structure.

A major farmhouse fire near the intersection of Dingman Drive and Highbury Avenue Wednesday afternoon (June 27) kept emergency crews busy for hours.

Brian George, deputy chief of the London Fire Department said the fire broke out at an abandoned farmhouse just before 3 p.m.

No one has lived in the home for at least three years, he added.

The roof of the home collapsed while fire crews were on scene, George said, but no one was injured.

Hydro lines at the scene had fallen but they were inactive since the home was abandoned, he said.

Highbury Avenue was closed to traffic between Green Valley Road and Dingman Drive for at least an hour to ensure the safety of emergency crews.
