With the Canada Day celebration only three days away, the London Fire Department recommends residents enjoy fireworks at one of the few public venues around the city. Public displays are strictly regulated and require that those setting off fireworks are experts working within strict rules.

However, Canada Day is one of two days of the year where people can legally shoot of fireworks. Firecrackers will still be illegal.

If you should choose to display consumer fireworks, please be aware of the following cautions:

  • Always read and follow the label directions;
  • Buy your fireworks from a reliable source;
  • Stay away from illegal fireworks;
  • An adult should always be present to supervise fireworks activities;
  • Always have water nearby (garden hose and bucket);
  • The fireworks shooter should always wear eye protection;
  • Ignite the fireworks from a bucket of sand;
  • Ignite fireworks outdoors, away from vehicles and buildings;
  • Ignite fireworks one at a time;
  • Never re-ignite a dud;
  • Never experiment or make your own fireworks;
  • Don’t give fireworks to small children;
  • Dispose of fireworks responsibly by soaking them in water and putting them in a trash can.
