The chairman of the London-Middlesex emergency measures co-ordinating committee was a target of the London fire department’s powerful snorkel hose Thursday.

I was the other one.

Both Con. Mike Ferris, the chairman of the committee, and this reporter took the full blast from the snorkel hose while standing close to firefighters who had been aiming it at dying flames at Central Chevrolet Oldsmobile (London) Ltd.

“Soaked” hardly seems to be the word for what happened. But water dripped from head to shoes.

Just prior to this, Con. Ferris and I had been huddling with Deputy Fire Chief Earl Fenwick. He drifted away, leaving us standing and talking to a firefighter.

We were aware of the snorkel still doing its job, when suddenly, the blast came.

Planned or accidental, firefighters will never tell.
