Owner Tom Reidy, his wife, Darlene, and it three children were forced to leave the apartment over the garage.
Mr. Reidy said rather than take a chance on leaving the building by smoke filled stairs, he decided to use the fire department aerial ladder truck.
The alarm was turned in at 5:43 AM.
Fire inspector Art Brighton said the blaze appeared to start in the convertible car which was destroyed. Flames 83 holes – one huge- in the roof of the building. He said property lost at about $30,000.
The party room, located in the same building as the garage and also owned by Mr. Reedy, was damaged by smoke.
Platoon Chief Jim Stillwell confirm that the fire was confined mainly to the roof of the garage.
