20130723 MVC Highbury AveLondon Police were investigating to determine whether a driver was impaired when he smashed his red truck into a light standard at the intersection of Oxford and Highbury streets Tuesday afternoon.

A light pole crashed down, striking the back end of at least one vehicle after the truck hit it shortly after 12:20 p.m., police said. But while stunned drivers and passengers got out of their vehicles and stood in the rain, the truck continued on, then turned into a parking lot and headed southbound on Highbury again until police pulled the driver over.

“He was located a few blocks south and was arrested,” said Const. Ken Steeves.

“We are conducting an investigation in relation to impaired and hit and run.”
