Charges have been laid in connection with an explosion at a townhouse complex in southeast London, but officers are still searching for a person of interest.

London Police say it was around 8:15 p.m. Friday when they were called 1217 Southdale Rd. East after reports of an explosion and fire in one of the units.

When investigators arrived at the scene, they allegedly found evidence of a marijuana oil extraction operation. The total amount of drugs seized by officers came to $53,490. Damage to the property from the explosion and fire is estimated at $600,000.

A 26 year old London man has been charged in relation to the explosion and working fire that occurred in a townhouse on Southdale Road East on Friday August 15.

London Police say 26-year-old Rueben Garcia has been charged with the following counts under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Arson by negligence
  • Arson causing damage to property
  • Arson with disregard for human life
  • Occupant injuring a building

Investigators say Garcia also faces the following charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the explosion or fire.

London Police say they’re also still looking for a male seen running from the unit shortly after the explosion. This male is described as Hispanic or Native, 5’8″-6′ tall, heavy set and had short dark hair.
