The good news is that Wiarton Willy predicted an early spring. If he is accurate in his prediction, “spring is just around the corner.”

We do, however, have one winter event that we are excited about.

Residents, businesses and community groups have been working closely with the Argyle BIA and the Child and Youth Network to plan an exciting Family Day full of winter activities, music, hot chocolate and chili for the whole community. This is a great way to meet our neighbours and show some Argyle pride.

Come out and cheer on families who are racing around Argyle for the title of Winners of our Amazing Race. Give us a call at 519-601-8002 or email [email protected] for more information.

On Feb. 2, we were honoured to host Neighbourhood Watch London’s city wide launch of their Business Watch London program. The BIA and Business Watch London have created a strong partnership and to date many of our businesses have signed up for Business Watch.

The event which was held at Sutherland’s Furniture was well attended by elected officials, London police and fire departments, local business owners and members of the community. I encourage all retail businesses and services throughout the city to become a member of Business Watch.

With the devastating news of the closing of Electro-Motive Canada, many of the retail businesses and services in Argyle are offering special discounts or programs for services and products to the affected Electro-Motive employees. Please contact the BIA office at 519-601-8002 or be watching our website www.argylebia.com for details and updates.

Remember, when you shop locally, more of your money stays close to home; supporting the things that make your community a great place to live. So no matter what area of the city you are in, please support your local businesses.

Nancy McSloy is the executive director of the Argyle BIA. She can be reached at 519-601-8002 or email [email protected].
