vickered01 Today, the Canadian Red Cross recognized the heroic efforts of London firefighter Allison Vickerd by awarding her with their ‘Rescuer Award’. This award acknowledges the efforts of non-professional rescuers and off-duty first responders, who go out of their way to save a life, prevent further injury and provide comfort to the injured.

While competing in a 10K race last summer, Ms. Vickerd, noticed ahead of her that a man in the race had collapsed. She hurried to assist and quickly helped manage the urgent situation with combined efforts of St. John Ambulance.

“It is an honour for the Canadian Red Cross to recognize Allison for demonstrating the power of humanity by acting decisively in applying the skills and training she has gained through her Red Cross training, said Kelly Farrell, Canadian Red Cross. “Our hope is that Allison’s actions inspire others to acquire

these same skills and employ them with confidence whenever the need arises.”

“The London Fire Department is extremely proud of Allison Vickerd,” said Deputy Fire Chief, Brian George. “Allison’s quick response to aid a fellow Londoner in medical distress is a testament to how she exemplifies the qualities of our profession and the vision of the London Fire Department – First in Life Safety …Prevention, Education, Response and Protection”.
